New HQ for The Royal Yachting Association
Objective
The RYA, Royal Yachting Association, required new headquarters close to existing premises in Eastleigh, Hampshire. They had bespoke needs because space was required for a significant post room, storage area and loading facilities to enable despatch of membership communications to nearly 100,000 members worldwide.
Service delivery
A property search was conducted which identified a mixed use speculative development in Hamble, near Southampton, where through negotiation with the developer, Vail Williams was able to acquire a traditional design and build contract for RYA.
Vail Williams entered into early negotiations with the developer to ensure specific changes were made to the building specification and that RYA’s proposed fit-out could be accommodated. By procuring the work as a single package under a traditional design and build contract we were able to deliver a tailor-made building, negating any costs associated with subsequent retro-fitting – achieving significant long-term cost savings for RYA.
Vail Williams project managed the design and build of this £2m headquarters scheme, totalling 1,695 sq m (18,247 sq ft), which included all RYA’s specific requirements.
Strategic advice was also provided on all Rating matters and Vail Williams has sold RYA’s existing premises to a residential developer.
