Challenge

Vail Williams was appointed by Wates Construction on behalf of a Department for Education framework, to provide planning advice for the delivery of a new educational building at Isle of Wight (IoW) College.

The advice including seeking demolition permission for existing buildings, pre-application stage, environmental impact screening, public engagement and planning approval for the construction of a new vocational college.

How we helped
  • Worked to tight Department for Education (DfE) timescales to manage the planning process.
  • Sought prior approval to demolish buildings onsite, enabling contractor begin works.
  • Completed pre-application stage working with local planning authority (LPA).
  • Undertook a screening process, and public information event via an online portal we created quickly for our client.
  • Worked with Wates Construction, IoW College and Isle of Wight Council to lead on Biodiversity Net Gain requirements, to successfully address this in the planning process.

“We are grateful to the education planning experts at Vail Williams, not only for their ability to achieve the necessary planning permission for this college scheme, but to do so within tight timescales, and with the ability to react and lead on the BNG requirements which came in mid-process.”

Charlotte Handy, Senior Design Manager, Wates Group.
