Vail Williams was formed in January 1988 with the Merger of Pearson Williams & LS Vail & Son. John Vail retired in 1997 and Ken Williams retired in 2004.

Acquisions of Gibson Ely and Shepherd Dear soon followed and the Southampton head office was moved to new premises in Ocean Village to accommodate the growing team. The number of employees in 1988 was 70.

Steady growth continued through the nineties with an office opening in Portsmouth in 1990, London in 1994 and Gatwick in 1995. In 1990 the Bracknell and Reading offices merged to form the Thames Valley Office – still the largest office today and effectively the Head office with 50 plus staff.

2003 saw a merger with Robert Shaw and Partners and 2004 saw the opening of our Guildford office.

2006 was a particularly busy year the company taking on full LLP status a new office opening in Birmingham and an enlarged Crawley office being established.

In 2012 we secured a joint venture with Crossland Otter Hunt in London and a few months later in 2013 we celebrated our 25th anniversary.

In 2015 we acquired with Business Rates specialist Bisset, Moffatt, Hill to strengthen our rating offer ahead of the 2017 Rating Revaluation.

In June 2017 we further strengthened our Business Rates capabilities with the acquisition of the general rates division of Ruddle Merz. Three of their specialist Rating Surveyors moved to our Birmingham office and the other three joined our London team.

We have won multiple awards in the last few years and were particularly delighted to be named one of 'The Best Places to Work in Property' by Property Week Magazine in late 2016.

Our current Managing Partner, Matthew Samuel-Camps is leading a highly skilled, 160 strong team of property professionals into the next few years of Vail Williams growth and development.
