Birmingham office grows with latest recruit, Dominic Lean

September 25, 2017

For our latest recruit, surveyor Dominic Lean, success is something you have to go out and find, and that’s what he’s hoping to do here at Vail Williams.

Dominic has joined our property acquisition and disposal team in Birmingham, from Salloway Property Consultants in Burton on Trent, and specialises in the surveying of commercial property.

We spoke to him to find out a bit more about what makes him tick, and why he wanted to join our growing team in Birmingham.

Where are you joining Vail Williams from?

Salloway Property Consultants in Burton on Trent.

How long were you there and what do you specialise in?

I was there for just shy of two years and covered all aspects of commercial property but mainly specialised in property disposal.

What attracted you to your new post at Vail Williams?

For me, it was the chance to develop my knowledge within a company that strongly supports the professional development of its staff.

What are your ambitions in the role?

I would like to gain my RICS qualification whilst helping to continue to grow the business space team in the Birmingham office.

What’s the best thing about working in property, and why?

This is always said, but it is very true! It has to be the variety of work you get involved in, and also the satisfaction you get when a deal completes and you have been involved with the project right from the initial enquiry. Seeing work through to completion like this is very satisfying.

What was your first ever job?

I worked as a sales assistant at Lacoste in Derby.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Success doesn’t come out and find you, you have to go out and get it.

Have you ever had a hair-raising moment, if so, what was it?

Being a cricketer I would have to say facing 80mph plus fast bowling is pretty hair raising (a brave way of saying frightening!).

What’s your favourite band?

I listen to a really broad range of music, but you can’t go wrong with a bit of Coldplay or Oasis.

If you could work in any other profession, what would it be and why?

Maybe something like an F1 driver. It would be an easy way to travel the world in style (and get to drive very quickly!).
