David has over 30 years’ experience of working in the UK property market and specialises in business rates advice.
He helps clients to identify opportunities to reduce business rates without danger of promoting an increase in rates.
When taking a challenge to the Valuation Office Agency, David is particularly skilled at using his thorough understanding of the principle, laws and case history of rating, to achieve the best possible outcome for his clients. This includes his knowledge of billing compilation as issued by local authorities.
Over the year’s David has specialised in business rates advice for offices, industrial, retail and minerals properties. He also has particular experience in rail served aggregate depots, car supermarkets, conference centres and leisure parks.
During his career, he has acted for a national car giant to achieve £1.5 million savings by managing the complex units of rateable assessments on their west London site. He phased these together into one, which created a much lesser overall rateable value than the original individual rating assessments.
He is also responsible for providing strategic and rating appeal services for the world's leading oil and gas inspection, verification, testing and certification company, SGS (UK) Ltd.
David has been a member of the Rating Surveyors Association for the last five years. This requires a minimum of ten years’ experience and is sponsored by the vote of industry peers.
In his spare time, David enjoys world-wide travel, especially to locations with unique wildlife, such as Madagascar, Ecuador and the Caribbean. His travels tend to involve trekking and walking – something which he also enjoys at home, especially if it involves real ale hostelries.
