Matthew is Chairman of Vail Williams and former Managing Partner – a role which he held between 2015 to 2025.

During his tenure as Managing Partner, Vail Williams achieved Investors in People Gold accreditation twice, was voted as one of the Best Places to Work in Property and secured numerous other awards.  Throughout this time, the business grew both organically and through acquisitions and mergers with six other practices, as well as geographically with the opening of new offices in Woking, Bournemouth and Oxford. This resulted in the doubling of the firm’s revenues between 2015 and 2025, to £21m.

Matthew’s wider commercial property expertise includes over 30 years’ experience helping clients to recover debts secured against commercial and residential properties across the UK, valued at over £500 million.  A Registered Property Receiver and Registered Valuer, Matthew acts for a number of high street and boutique lenders, and is experienced in providing formal commercial property valuations as well as acting as an expert witness.

He is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and from 2005-2006 was the Chair of NARA, the professional Association for Property & Fixed Charge Receivers and is Head of the LPA Receivership practice at Vail Williams.

Matthew is now a fellow of NARA and Head of the Social Housing team, with responsibility for advising Registered Providers across Central Southern England.

In his spare time, Matthew is Trustee of EBP South (Education Business Partnership) and is a keen mountain bike and road cyclist.
