After 5 years adding value to his private client’s purses, our latest recruit has turned his expertise to valuation of the property kind

We’re delighted to welcome our latest recruit, Robert Kay, to our commercial property valuation team in Guildford where he joins as a graduate surveyor.

For the past 5 years, Robert worked as a wealth manager for Investec Wealth, specialising in private client wealth management.

After taking a keen interest in property, in particular residential property valuations, Robert decided to take a career change and join Vail Williams.

What attracted you to your new post at Vail Williams?

I was attracted to the role because Vail Williams is renowned as a successful company with strong reputation, covering a wide range of disciplines and geographical locations. It was also a great opportunity for me to undertake my APC and become qualified, whilst taking up the position of graduate surveyor in my home town of Guildford.

What are your ambitions in the role?

I aim to become competent across a range of disciplines, assisted by APC, which will allow me to really add value to both my clients, and colleagues. I would also like to develop an extensive network of industry professionals.

What’s the best thing about working in property, and why?

It has to be the variety of the work and the types of projects you get to work on, the different property disciplines and geographical locations too. I also enjoy the social interaction, in terms of building successful long term client relationships.

What was your first ever job?

I had a paper round – aged 12.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.

If you had to recommend a good book, what would it be, and why?

Wolf of Wall Street – it provides a fascinating insight into the life of a stockbroker.

Tell us a surprising fact about yourself.

I once won a ‘baby of the year’ competition in 1989.Have you ever had a hair-raising moment, if so, what was it?

Somehow, I once fell down the stairs and landed on a glass during my ski season.

If you could work in any other profession, what would it be and why?

I would work for charitable projects worldwide – it would be highly rewarding / fulfilling.
