A commercial law firm has signed up to extra workspace for its growing property group teams at a landmark office building in the heart of Bournemouth town centre.

Steele Raymond signed an additional 3,125 sq ft on the first floor of Grade II-listed Granville Chambers on Richmond Hill, increasing the firm’s occupation to three floors within the building, totalling 7,625 sq ft.

Bryony Thompson, a Partner working at the Bournemouth office of property consultancy Vail Williams, acted on behalf of Steele Raymond.

She said: “In addition to the law firm’s Richmond Point office just up the road, Steele Raymond signed a lease at Christmas to take the first floor and extend their leases on the existing floors at Granville Chambers.

“It’s good to see a well-respected business commit to this landmark building longer term by extending current leases, generating inward investment for the town centre.”

Granville Chambers dates back to 1891, the year when the London-Paris telephone link was opened and Arthur Conan Doyle’s detective Sherlock Holmes appeared in print for the first time.

The property was originally built as a temperance hotel by architects Lawson & Donkin; alcohol was not served.

Currently with a 110-strong team of partners and employees based in Bournemouth, Steele Raymond is opening an office in Southampton, at Arcadia House in Ocean Village, early this year.

Jenny Rogerson, Managing Partner at Steele Raymond, said: “Over the last three years the firm has grown significantly and with new talented lawyers and support staff joining the team we had the exciting opportunity to take an additional floor in Granville Chambers, to help support our planned growth locally.

“Having had office space in Granville Chambers since 2019, we know the building well, it’s well-suited to our needs and importantly provides a great working environment for our team, just a couple of minutes’ walk from Richmond Point.

“The recent refurbishment of the floor is to an incredibly high standard, in-keeping with the rest of this iconic Bournemouth building.

“2025 is going to be an exciting year for the firm, with our continued growth in Bournemouth and the opening of an office in Southampton.”
