From furniture maker to Senior Member of our Rating Business Development Team, Tony has carved out an exciting role with us

September 14, 2016

We’re pleased to welcome another new comer, this time to our rapidly expanding business rates advice team.

Tony Harward has joined the Crawley office as a Senior Member of our Rating Business Development Team where he will specialise in business rates relief and historic auditing.

It’s a long way from his first job as a furniture maker, which then saw him go on to work in telesales team management for Commercial Valuers and Surveyors.

However, Tony relishes the opportunity of a new challenge, and is looking forward to the diversity of the role working with the firm’s business rates consultants.

He spoke to us about what attracted him to the post, and his ambitions in the new role, whilst sharing some interesting facts about his life – including a close shave with British former professional boxer, “The Dark Destroyer” – aka Nigel Benn!

What attracted you to your new post with the business rates advice team at Vail Williams?
I was keen to embrace a new challenge at Vail Williams, using skills obtained from previous roles which I hope to translate into my new role.

What are your ambitions in the role?
I aim to progress as far as possible within the rating discipline and also impart the knowledge I have gained.

What’s the best thing about working in property, and why?
It has to be the diversity of the clients we work with, which means that no day is ever the same.

What was your first ever job?
I was a Furniture Maker.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
An army of donkeys led by a lion is better than an army of lions led by a donkey.

If you had to recommend a good book, what would it be, and why?
It would have to be My Booky Wook 2 by Russell Brand. Too funny for print.

Tell us a surprising fact about yourself.
I once sparred with Nigel Benn.

Have you ever had a hair-raising moment, if so, what was it?
It would have to be getting hit by Nigel…

What’s your favourite band?
British grime and hip hop singer, Kano, from East London.

If you could work in any other profession, what would it be and why?
I would love a role as an Ambassador.
