No business can avoid or evade paying business rates if they are rightfully due.
But there are steps that you can take to limit your liability, such as through legitimate use of business rates reliefs or exemptions.
Here are some of the reliefs that are available and which our business rates experts will be able to assess your eligibility for.
Empty Property Relief
You can claim 100% rate relief for three months on vacant commercial properties and six months for vacant industrial premises.
However, after this initial period of relief, a full rates charge would be levied regardless of whether the property remains vacant.
Small Business Rate Relief
The amount of business rates you have to pay is calculated by the Government or local councils based on your property’s ‘Rateable Value’ or RV.
Whether you occupy one property or multiple, we are on hand to advise on the level of relief you could receive.
Mandatory/Discretionary Relief
If you are a Charity or Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC), you can apply for charitable rate relief of up to 80%. However, the property must be used for charitable purposes.
A further discretionary discount may also be awarded dependent on individual circumstances.
Coronavirus: Business rates relief
There are some temporary business rates reliefs available amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic which we can also explore on your behalf.
